How to Feed Vitalbix Fiber-Mix
Feed Vitalbix PsylliumMash as a (preventive) course to support the removal of sand from the intestines. Mix PsylliumMash with 1 to 3 parts water for a thicker mash or with 4 parts water for a very thin mash. You can adjust this depending on what your horse prefers! Use cold or warm water, but not boiling. Let it stand for 10-15 minutes, stir, and feed immediately! Do not let it stand for a long time after preparation, as the seeds swell — you want this to happen at the right time in the intestines. For optimal effect, do not mix with other Vitalbix products, supplements, or medication. Always consult your vet first if your horse is on medication.
Provide your horse with sufficient roughage. A continuous supply of fiber helps to remove sand from the intestines and prevents sand buildup. Also, ensure your horse always has access to plenty of fresh drinking water during the treatment!
Prevent Sand Intake
Prevent sand intake by never feeding hay directly on sandy ground. Also, avoid letting your horse graze on a (too) bare pasture. Regularly check your horse’s manure for sand by placing some manure in a clear plastic bag or glove with water. If you find a lot of sand in the manure or your horse shows colic-like symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately. Vitalbix PsylliumMash supports the removal of sand from the intestines but is not a miracle cure. Preventing the intake of (too much) sand remains important, even when using a product containing psyllium.
Measure Vitalbix PsylliumMash easily using the Vitalbix measuring cup.
Daily Feeding Advice
As a Preventive Treatment
Feed 100 grams of mash per 100 kg of body weight, once a day.
For example, a 500 kg horse should be fed 500 grams in one serving per day.
One bag provides enough for 12 days (equivalent to 2 treatments)!
When Sand Is Detected in Manure/Intestines
Feed 200 grams of mash per 100 kg of body weight, once a day.
For example, a 500 kg horse should be fed 1,000 grams (1 kg) in one serving per day.
One bag provides enough for one full treatment. Repeat the treatment if necessary in consultation with your veterinarian.
When Large Amounts of Sand Are Detected in Manure/Intestines
Feed 200 grams of mash per 100 kg of body weight, twice a day.
For example, a 500 kg horse should be fed 1,000 grams (1 kg) per serving, twice daily.
This means a total of 2 kg per day for a 500 kg horse.
Repeat the treatment if necessary in consultation with your veterinarian.
